In celebration of Teacher’s Day and Environmental Educator’s Day, and in line with our commitment to raising awareness and engaging citizens in environmental issues, the Giant Otter Project has launched a very special campaign. The initiative aims to strengthen environmental education in schools, promoting greater awareness of the importance of biodiversity conservation among children.
This campaign includes the free distribution of the bilingual children’s book “Gaspar Goes Fishing” along with a teaching guide, to integrate this material into school curriculum. “Gaspar Goes Fishing” tells the story of Gaspar, a young giant otter who, along with his family, learns valuable lessons about the coexistence between humans and animals. The book not only provides essential information about the behavior and characteristics of giant otters but also conveys a message of hope and harmony, showing that respectful coexistence with nature is possible.
The teaching guide, designed to help educators use this material effectively, offers suggestions for interactive activities, such as a step-by-step guide to creating a paper origami otter, making the learning experience more playful and engaging. This approach encourages children’s interest in environmental conservation from an early age. By being bilingual, with the narrative in both Portuguese and English, “Gaspar Goes Fishing” becomes an even richer, more accessible, and inclusive tool.
The participation of schools in this campaign is essential to spreading our conservation message. By registering, educators will not only receive the materials but also actively contribute to forming more conscious and engaged citizens in environmental protection. To participate, simply fill out a registration form, and upon confirmation, we will send the materials directly to the school.
Our campaign will be open until November 15th, and we hope to reach a large number of educational institutions. By inviting schools and educators to join this initiative, we reinforce the importance of environmental education as a fundamental pillar for biodiversity conservation and raising awareness in future generations.
We invite everyone to join us in this mission to educate and inspire, helping to make a difference in environmental education.
